It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Valdemar Prado, Vice-President of the World Association of Former United Nations Interns and Fellows (WAFUNIF), a respected leader, and a cherished friend.
Dr. Prado served WAFUNIF with unwavering dedication, integrity, and a deep belief in the mission and values of the United Nations. His leadership was marked by wisdom, humility, and a quiet strength that inspired trust and unity. He believed deeply in dialogue, international cooperation, and the responsibility of former UN interns and fellows to contribute meaningfully to a more just and peaceful world.
For many within WAFUNIF, and for those who worked alongside him across the international community, Dr. Prado was more than a colleague. He was a source of thoughtful counsel, encouragement, and steadfast support. For over two decades, his friendship, generosity of spirit, and moral clarity left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of knowing him.
The loss of Dr. Prado is deeply felt within WAFUNIF and far beyond. We have lost a pillar of our organization, the international community has lost a committed advocate, and many have lost a trusted friend whose presence elevated both our work and our shared purpose.
While words cannot fully capture the depth of this loss, we honor Dr. Valdemar Prado by carrying forward his legacy—through service, compassion, and a continued commitment to the ideals he lived by. His contributions, his humanity, and his enduring impact will not be forgotten.
Welcome to the homepage for the
World Association of Former United Nations Interns and Fellows (WAFUNIF)
As our name suggests, WAFUNIF is the official alumni organization for former interns and fellows of the United Nations. Membership in our organization is open to all former interns and fellows of the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the satellite locations of Geneva, Vienna, and Nairobi, the missions of the 193 member states, and the UN specialized agencies (UNICEF, UNITAR, et. al.). Membership provides qualifying individuals the opportunity to continue their association with the United Nations and to grow their personal and professional networks through project collaborations, informational seminars, and networking functions. Current interns and fellows are able to apply for early consideration in advance of the conclusion of their internship or fellowship in anticipation of becoming fully fledged members once their assignment has concluded. Further details on the application process can be found on our membership page.
